When we review small business websites, the problems are rarely about missing features. They are usually about missing basics. If your site gets these five things right, you are ahead of most of your competitors.
1. A clear first screen
Within a few seconds, a visitor should know what you do, who you do it for and where. Not "Welcome to our website", but something like "MIWA-accredited auto workshop in Strand, specialising in Mercedes-Benz and Honda." That is the thinking behind the Disa Auto Services website.
2. An obvious way to get in touch
Put your phone number, a WhatsApp button and a short enquiry form where people can find them without scrolling or hunting. Most visitors will be on a phone, so a tap-to-call button and a WhatsApp link do more work than a long contact page. Every site we build includes a WhatsApp button for this reason.
3. Proof that you are real and good
People are cautious about spending money with a business they cannot check. Show real photos of your work and premises, accreditations and memberships, and genuine customer reviews. Our NACO Stellenbosch case study shows how real workshop photos and plain facts about capacity do the persuading for a technical business.
4. A design that works on a phone
Text that is readable without zooming, buttons large enough for a thumb, and pages that load quickly. This is not a nice extra. It is where most of your visitors are. We design every site mobile-first and then scale up to tablet and desktop.
5. The foundations Google looks for
A clear page title and description for every page, headings that make sense, alt text on images and a sitemap. None of this is visible to a visitor, but it is how a search engine understands your site. Our development service builds all of this in. For a deeper look, read how to show up on Google.
What you do not need yet
You do not need an online shop, a chatbot or a dozen pages on day one. Start with the basics above, launch, and add features when you have a reason to. If you want a hand deciding what your business really needs, see our FAQ or ask for a demo of your site.
